tiesto Biography
Tiesto, the Dutch DJ, musician and electronic dance music producer, was born on January 17, 1969 in Breda, North Brabant in the Netherlands. In the past he's used several different aliases but currently goes by just Tiesto, which is a play on his nickname from childhood.
Tiesto and Arny Bink formed Black Hole Recordings label in 1997. He released “Magik” as well as “In Search of Sunrise.” In 1998 he met Dennis Waakop Reijers, the producer. Since then the pair have worked extensively together. On many of the releases of Tiesto's Reijers is credited with being the arrange, composer writer or producer. He and Ferry Corsten collaborated in 1999 as well as 2000 and created “Gouryella.” He remixed “Silence” by Delerium in 2000 which featured Sarah McLachlan, giving him exposure with an audience that was more mainstream. He released “In My Memory” his debut solo album, in 2001. The set spawned several major hits, launching his career. From 2002 to 2004, DJ Magazine named him “World's No. 1 DJ” three times in a row.
In 2004, Tiesto released “Just Be,” his second album, and then performed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece during the opening ceremony. He became the first DJ ever to perform live at the Olympics. His tracks made for the Olympics got mixed and were then released as “Parade of the Athletes,” a mix compilation, in 2004. Tiesto in April 2007 launched “Tiesto's Club Life,” a radio show, on the Netherlands station Radio 538. He also released “Elements of Life,” his third album, that year. The set reached the No. 1 spot on the Dutch as well as Billboard's Top Electronic Albums charts. In 2008 the set received a Grammy Award nomination. In October 2009 Tiesto released “Kaleidoscope,” his fourth album.
