The English lyricist and singer Morrissey was born in Davyhulme, Lancashire on May 22, 1959. During the 1980s he launched his career as the vocalist and lyricist for The Smiths, a highly successful British band. The Smiths disbanded in 1987. Morrissey launched his solo career with the release of "Viva Hate," his first solo album. He has released 38 singles, one EP, ten compilation albums, two live albums and nine studio albums since becoming a solo artist.

"Viva Hate" reached the No. 1 spot on UK Albums chart. The first two singles spawned off the album, "Everyday Is Like Sunday" and "Suedehead" both made UK Top 10. Morrissey released "Kill Uncle," his second album, in 1991. It also made UK Top 10. In 1992 he released "Your Arsenal," his third album that also made UK Top 10. Morrissey teamed with the producer Steve Lillywhite on his next three albums: 1994's "Vauxhall and I," 1995's "Southpaw Grammar" and 1997's "Maladjusted." "Vauxhall and I" reached the No. 1 spot on UK Albums chart, while the next two albums both made UK Top 10. During this time Morrissey released a total of eleven singles.

Morrissey's next album release came after a hiatus of almost seven years. In 2004 he released "You Are the Quarry," Morrissey's seventh solo album. The set reached the No. 2 spot on UK Albums Chart. It reached the No. 11 spot on Billboard's 200 chart, making the album his most successful in the U.S. Four singles off the album all reached UK Top 10. In 2006 Morrissey released "Ringleader of the Tormentors," his eighth solo album. It was his third No. 1 album on UK Albums Chart. In 2009 Morrissey released his latest album, "Years of Refusal." It reached the No. 3 spot in the UK, while in the US it reached the No. 11 spot.
