journey Biography

The American rock band Journey was formed in San Francisco, California in 1973 by former Santana band members. The band has underwent several phases. Their strong commercial success occurred from the latter part of the 1970s through 1987. After that they disbanded temporarily. During this time Journey released several hit songs, including “Don't Stop Believin'” in 1981, which is the highest selling catalog track in the history of iTunes, as well as “Open Arms,” their highest ever charting hit in the U.S. In the middle 1990s the band had a successful reunion and was nominated for a Grammy Award for their hit single “When You Love a Woman.” Later the band regrouped using different lead singers.

Journey has had one Diamond, eight multi-platinum and two gold certified albums. From 1978 to 1987 the band had seven multi-platinum albums in a row. Journey has also has 19 singles in the Top 30, with six of them reaching the Billboard's Hot 100 Top 10. Journey, according to RIAA, has sold a total of 47 million U.S. albums, which makes them the 28th top selling band. Worldwide sales are more than 80 million albums. Journey's songs are still played all across the world on radio stations and are staples in arena rock shows.
