Rod Stewart 2018 Concert Tour Opening Bands: To Be Determined

Frequently Asked Questions
What songs will Rod Stewart play in concert?
Rod Stewart is just as much an R&B artist now as he is a classic rock and roll icon. But his evolution seen in his 2014 concert tour should come as little surprise. Stewart has been shedding his classic rock sound over the last ten years as he ages into a more laidback rhythmic swagger.
The duality between rock and roll legend and modern R&B torchbearer plays out in his recent setlists. He brandishes almost half of the set with cover material from the distant past with no new pop covers, but his original stuff is a scattered mixed bag from his various skins.
One thing to note is Rod Stewart plays nothing from his most recent album, Time. Oddly enough, this is perhaps his most rock and roll oriented album in a decade.
His most R&B influenced sound comes from the record, Vagabond Heart, where Rod Stewart plays its most popular cut, “Rhythm of the Heart.”
The artist closes most of his sets with a rather bizarre showing of “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy?” from his big late 70’s arena rock record, Blondes Have All the Fun. It lacks the immediate charm compared to the 70’s, but it is an intriguing throwback none the less.
Rod Stewart feels most appropriate playing his love ballads, and he fits the setlist with a number of these. He opens the show with “Infatuation” from his overlooked record, Camouflage. A somber version of “Tonight’s the Night (Gonna Be Alright)” from his acclaimed fan favorite A Night on the Town is possibly the show highlight, for it fits Stewart’s latest incarnation and age far better than, “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy” or “You Wear It Well.”

Does Rod Stewart play any cover material?
Rod Stewart is an old school rocker at heart, and he displays this virtuosic love of classic rock with a new setlist consisting of about 50% cover material. But this is not the mainstream corporate classic rock we have come to be familiar with. Stewart mixes a lot of historically overlooked material into the mix. The Persuaders one hit wonder, “Some Guys Have All the Luck” is as tied to the early 70’s as you can possibly get. Etta James R&B influenced “I’d Rather Go Blind” is quaintly reimagined by Stewart early in the majority of his sets, and Van Morrison’s oddly experimental gem “Have I Told You Lately?” is a setlist staple.
The closest Rod Stewart gets to traditional classic rock is “Proud Mary” by Creedence Cleartwater Revival. This is certainly no Led Zeppelin or Boston, but Stewart dips into his own historical richness with a cover of Faces “Stay With Me.” Long time fans will recognize the soft drawl from Faces, the band that Rod Stewart was in before his prolific multi-decade solo career began.
How long is a Rod Stewart concert?
Considering Rod Stewart is staring down the 70’s, he only shows it sparingly. His shows go on for a very fair 100 minutes each evening. It is enough time to hear the big hits next to some rich and significant covers.
Who is Stewart’s publicist and press contact?
Rod Stewart does not have a single publicist, but you can contact his management company, Steifel Entertainment, located in Woodland Hills, California. You can reach them through the general email, contact@stiefelEnt.com.
How do I get access to presale tickets for Rod Stewart’s tour?
Thankfully for Rod Stewart fans, he has a rather popular and generous fan club. It has no special name but it has plenty of special goodies. It gives all fan club members a 4 ticket limit per membership for presale tickets provided through the official Rod Stewart website. Aside from this, you get access to exclusive content, sweepstakes, and meet and greets.
You can also gain access to presale tickets through the American Express platform as well as presale tickets for Citi cardmembers with Citi’s Private Pass Program. You must be a card holder for both of these presale ticket avenues.
Concert Reviews
“Like peers Billy Joel, Elton John and Bruce Springsteen, Stewart could be on stage for 12 hours and probably not cover every song in his five-decade career. But on Saturday at Philips Arena, he gave it a hearty try by plowing through nearly two dozen songs with his slickly professional ensemble – a three-piece horn section, a trio of backup singers and a seven-piece band.” – Melissa Ruggieri of Access Atlanta
“Year in, year out, with only slight variations, he does a flashy, visually-arresting, rocked-up Vegas act: all the hits, good and bad, delivered with incomparable showmanship – and soccer balls. And yet something strange happened at Stewart’s Bell Centre performance Saturday night. Was it a slight tweaking of the setlist from last time? Was it the palpable warmth and sentimentality that seemed to fill the stage? Could it have been the Christmas song? Who knows? But somehow, what might look like a boilerplate Stewart show on paper turned out to be one of his best Montreal concerts in ages.” – Bernard Perusse of the Montreal Gazette
“Yet on a stage that gleams intensely under the lights filled by a band with fixed smiles, a celebratory air carries the day. Stewart boots footballs far into the arena, brings a couple of his younger kids on stage to dance and dedicates “Forever Young” to murdered soldier Lee Rigby. He draws fitfully on new material with varying results. His paean to an early affair, “Brighton Beach”, is warmly touching and honest, while the folk-rocking “It’s Over”, tackling divorce, comes with the voice of hard-earned experience.” – Chris Mugan of the UK Independent
