The R&B recording artist Rihanna was born on February 20, 1988 in Saint Michael, Barbados. When she was 16 years old she relocated to the U.S. to pursue a career in music.

Rihanna released “Music of the Sun,” her debut album, in 2005. It made the top ten on Billboard's 200 chart and spawned “Pon de Replay,” a hit single which made the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In 2006, she released “A Girl Like Me, her second album, which peaked on Billboard's albums chart in the top five spots and spawned “SOS,” her first No. 1 single in the U.S. in addition to top 10 singles”Break It Off” and “Unfaithful.” In 2007, Rihanna released “Good Girl Gone Bad,” her third album. It peaked in the No. 2 spot on Billboard's 200 chart and spawned five top 10 hits, include “Disturbia,” “Take a Bow” and “Umbrella,” all No. 1 hit singles. The album received nine Grammy Award nominations and won for “Umbrella” as Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. “Rated R,” Rihanna's fourth album, was released in 2009, spawning the hit song “Rude Boy,” which peaked at No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. Rihanna's fifth studio album, “Loud,” was released in 2010 and spawned No. 1 hit singles “S&M,” “What's my Name?” and “Only Girl (In the World).”

Rihanna has sold over 100 million singles and over 30 million albums and is one of the all-time best selling artists. Since 2005 she has had ten No. 1 singles on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, the most from any artist in that time period. Rihanna has won numerous awards, including Billboard Music Awards (18), American Music Awards (4) and Grammy Awards (4).
