The recording artist Rihanna was born in Saint Michael, Barbados on February 20, 1988. She started her career in 2003 after meeting Evan Rogers, a record producer. She moved to the U.S. when she was 16 years old to pursue a music career. Under the guidance of Rogers she started to record demo tapes. She had an audition with Jay-Z and Def Jam Recordings signed her to a recording contract.

In 2005 Rihanna rose to international prominence after releasing "Music of the Sun," her debut album. It peaked on Billboard's 200 chart within the top ten and spawned "Pon de Replay," a top five single on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. In 2006 she released "A Girl Like Me," her second album. It spawned "SOS," which topped the Hot 100 chart. Rihanna released "Good Girl Gone Bad," her third album, in 2007, spawning the hit singles "Disturbia," "Take a Bow," "Don't Stop the Music" and "Umbrella" along with four other singles. The album received nine Grammy Award nominations and won one. In 2009 Rihanna released "Rated R," her fourth album, which spawned top ten singles "Rude Boy," "Hard" and "Russian Roulette." "Rude Boy" hit the No. 1 spot on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. Rihanna released her fifth album, "Loud," in 2010, which spawned three No. 1 hit singles: "S&M," "What's My Name?" and "Only Girl." In 2011 "Talk That Talk," Rihanna's six album" spawned No. 1 hit single "We Found Love" as well as "Where Have You Been," which reached the top five.

Rihanna has won numerous awards, including five Grammys two BRITs, 18 Billboard Music and five American Music. She had had eleven No. 1 hit singles on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. Over the course of her career, Rihanna has sold over to million worldwide digital singles and 25 million worldwide albums.
