The American songwriter-singer and actress Nora Jones was born on March 30, 1979 in Brooklyn, New York and grew up in Grapevine, Texas, a suburb of Fort Worth. Her father is Ravi Shankar, the Indian sitar player.

In 2002, Jones released “Come Away With Me,” her critically acclaimed debut album, to launch her solo career. The album was certified diamond and sold more than 20 million copies. The set reached the No. 1 spot on Billboard's 200 chart and her song “Don't Know Why” reached No. 1 on Top 40 Adult. Jones won a total of five Grammy Awards for “Come Away With Me,” including Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Album of the Year. Her later studio albums, 2004's “Feels Like Home,” 2007's “Not Too Late,” and 2009's “The Fall,” have all been certified Platinum for selling more than one million copies.

“Feels Like Home” has sold ten million worldwide copies and received three Grammy nominations. For “Sunrise” Jones won the Best Female Pop Vocal Performance award and she also won Record of the Year and her Ray Charles collaboration on “Here We Go Again” won Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals. Jones co-wrote or wrote every song on “Not Too Late,” her third album. The set has sold more than 4 million worldwide copies. “The Fall,” Jones' fourth album, was released in 2009 and debuted in the No. 3 spot. “Chasing Pirates,” the lead single, peaked in the No. 7 spot on the Jazz Songs chart and No. 13 on the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart. Jones is the winner of nine Grammy Awards and has sold more than 37 million worldwide albums. She was named by Billboard magazine as the 2009-09 decade's top Jazz artist.
