nickelback Biography

The Canadian rock band Nickelback was formed in 1995 in Hanna, Alberta by Ryan Peake, Mike Kroeger, Chad Kroger and Brandon Kroeger. Although the group is mostly a rock band, they have experimented with different other musical styles as well, including pop and country in addition to post-grunge and hard rock. Nickelback has sold 30 million worldwide records and is one of Canada's most commercially successful groups. Nickelback is ranked number 11th for top selling music acts during the 2000s as well as second top selling foreign act for the U.S., trailing only the Beatles. Nickelback has sold 21 million U.S. album copies.

Nickelback released “Curb” in 1996 and “The State” in 1998, which was released independently. The band signed with Roadrunner Records and EMI and “The State” was re-released in 2000. Two of the album's singles “Breathe” and “Leader of Men” became Top 10 rock hit singles. In late 2001, “Curb” was certified gold and in 2008 reached platinum status.

Nickelback's third album “Silver Side Up” propelled the band into the mainstream. Their highly successful song “How You Remind Me” peaked in the No. 1 spot on the Canadian and American charts. For 2002, “How You Remind Me” was the No.1 single for the year on Billboard's Hot 100 chart.

“The Long Road” was released by Nickelback in 2003. The set sold five million worldwide copies. “All the Right Reasons” was released in 2005 and spawned five top 20 U.S. Hot 100 chart singles: “Rockstar,” “If Everyone Cared,” “Far Away,” “Savin' Me” and “Photograph.” Eleven million worldwide copies of “All the Right Reasons” have been sold. Nickelback released “Dark Horse” in November 2008. A new album is set to be released in 2011.
