The American pop songwriter-singer Lady Gaga was born on March 28, 1986 in New York City. In 2003, she started to perform in the Lower East Side's rock music scene in New York City and attended NYU's Tisch School of Arts. Lady Gaga signed with Interscope Records' imprint Streamline Records where she was a songwriter for label artists. Akon recognized her talent and vocal abilities. She signed with Kon Live Distribution, Akon's record label.

In 2008, Lady Gaga released “The Fame,” her debut album, and quickly rose to prominence. The set was commercially successful and spawned the international hit singles “Poker Face” and “Just Dance.” “The Fame” topped the record charts in six countries along with other top ten positions worldwide and was No. 1 on Billboard’s chart Dance/Electronic Albums. It also peaked in the No. 2 spot on Billboard's 200 U.S. chart. In 2009 she released “The Fame Monster,” her followup EP, which produced two more global No. 1 hit singles “Telephone” and “Bad Romance.” She embarked on a headlining global concert tour called “Monster Ball Tour.” It succeeded “Fame Ball Tour” which had wrapped up months before. “Born This Way,” Lady Gaga's second album, is set to be released in 2011.

Lady Gaga's inspirations include pop singers like Michael Jackson and Madonna as well as glam rock artists Queen and David Bowie. She is well-known for her outlandish sense of style when it comes to her fashion, performances, music videos and recordings. Lady Gaga has been nominated for twelve Grammys and won two. She has also sold 51 million singles and 15 million albums worldwide.
