jewel Biography

Jewel, the American singer-songwriter, was born on May 23, 1974 in Payson, Utah. Over the course of her career, Jewel has sold more than 27 million worldwide albums and been nominated for four Grammy Awards. Throughout her career, Jewel has crossed over multiple genres. She has released two country albums, two childrens albums and an independent album. Jewel is a judge and co-host with Kara DioGuardio for Platinum Hit, a reality songwriting competition television series which appears on Bravo.

In 1995 Jewel released, "Pieces of You," her highly acclaimed debut album. The 15x platinum set is one of the all-time top selling debut albums. The song "Who Will Save Your Soul" peaked in the No. 11 spot on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, while "Foolish Games" peaked in the No. 7 spot and "You Were Meant for Me" reached the No. 2 spot.

In 1998 Jewel released "Spirit," her second album. The set peaked in the No. 3 spot on Billboard's 200 chart and sold over 4 million U.S. copies. The hit single "Hands" peaked in the No. 6 spot. She released a holiday album in November 1999 called "Joy: A Holiday Collection." In 2001 Jewel released "This Way." The set peaked in the No. 9 spot on Billboard's 200 chart and sold more than 1.5 million U.S. copies. Jewel's fifth album, "0304," was released in 2003. The set spawned the hit song "Intuition," which peaked in the No. 5 spot on Billboard's Adult Pop Song chart aswell as the No. 20 spot on Billboard's Hot 100 chart.

"Goodbye Alice in Wonderland," Jewel's sixth album, was released in 2006. It debuted in the No. 8 spot on Billboard's Albums chart. "Perfectly Clear," Jewel's debut country album, was released in 2008. The set debuted in the No. 8 spot on Billboard's 200 chart and No. 1 on Billboard's Country Albums chart. The set spawned three singles: "Til It Feels Like Cheating," "I Do" and "Stronger Woman." "Lullaby," Jewell's eight album and first independent release, was released in 2009. "Sweet and Wild," her ninth album, was released in 2010. It is Jewel's second country album. The set debuted in the No. 11 spot on Billboard's 200 chart. Jewel's most recent album, "the Merry Goes 'Round," is a children's album and was released in 2011.
