jerry seinfeld Biography
The American actor, stand-up comedian and writer Jerry Seinfeld was born on April 29, 1954 in Brooklyn, NY. He is best known for his role on the comedy television show “Seinfeld” (1989-1998) where he played a semi-fictional character based on himself. He co-created and co-wrote the show with Larry David. Seinfeld was also the co-executive producer during the final two seasons of the show.
In 2007 Seinfeld co-produced and co-wrote “Bee Movie” and also starred as Barry B. Benson. A reality television series, “The Marriage Ref,” was premiered by Seinfeld on NBC in February 2010. Currently, Seinfeld is directing “Long Story Short,” Colin Quinn's Broadway show, at Helen Hayes Theater.
After graduating from Queens College in 1976 Seinfeld tried out for an open-mic show at Catch a Rising Star in New York City, which resulted in him appearing on an HBO Rodney Dangerfield special. Seinfeld appeared on the television sitcom “Benson” in 1979 in the role of the mail delivery boy Frankie. In 1981 Seinfeld appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.” He impressed the audience and Carson and it led to regular “Tonight Show” appearances as well as other shows like “Late Night with David Letterman.”
In 1989 Seinfeld and Larry David created the show “The Seinfeld Chronicles,” which was later renamed as “Seinfeld.” By the show's fourth season it had developed into the most successful and popular American sitcom. The show ended in 1998. Seinfeld then went back to being a stand-up comedian and went on tour. He released “I'm Telling You for the Last Time,” a comedy special, in 1998. Seinfeld has also written several books, including “Seinlanguage,” which became a New York Times No. 1 bestseller after being released in 1993.
