The American comedian, talk show host and actor George Lopez was born in Mission Hills, CA on April 23, 1961. He is best known for his self-titled ABC sitcom which he starred in and self-produced from 2002 to 2007. His stand-up comedy explores Mexican American culture as well as ethnic and race relations. Lopez hosted Lopez Tonight, a late-night talk show on TBS, from 2009 to 2011.

Lopez became the first Latino ever to headline a major Los Angeles morning radio show when he hosted a Clear Channel Communications radio program in 1999. He also performed stand-up comedy for years before actress Sanda Bullock approached him in 2000 to star in and produce a comedy. She was concerned with the lack of American television sitcoms with a focus on Hispanics. ABC, which had received much criticism from Hispanic American groups due to their lack of Latinos in their television programs, picked up his show. Lopez in 2002 became one of just a handful of Latinos who have starred in a tv comedy series. Others include John Leguizamo, Freddie Prinze and Desi Arnaz. His show George Lopez ran for six seasons from 2002 to 2007, with Lopez as the star, producer, writer and co-creator. The show later became a success in syndication. Lopez also hosted Lopez Tonight from 2009 to 2011. The late-night talk show ran on TBS for two seasons.

Lopez has also made several film appearances, including Bread and Roses (2001), Real Women Have Curves (2002) and The Adventure of Shark Boy and Lava Girl (2005). He also starred in Naughty or Nice, a Disney Christmas film. In 2010 Lopez co-starred with Jackie Chan in a film called The Spy Next Door where he played a villain by the name of Glaze.
