eminem Biography

The American rapper, actor and record producer Eminem ( a.k.a. Slim Shady, his alter ego), was born in Saint Joseph, Missouri on October 17, 1972. In 1999, Eminem gained popularity very quickly when “Slim Shady LP,” his debut major label album, was released. The set won the Best Rap Album Grammy Award. “Marshall Mathers LP,” his followup album, was the all-time fastest-selling record by a solo artist in U.S. history, bringing Eminem, D12 (his group project), and Shady Records (his record label), mainstream recognition. Eminem, in addition to being a D12 member, is also half of Bad Meets Evil, a hip-hop duo. Royce da 5'9” is the other member.

“Marshall Mathers LP' along with “The Eminem Show,” his third album, received Grammy Awards as well. Eminem became the first artist ever to win the Grammy Award for three LPs in a row for Best Rap Album. He won the award two more times, “Relapse” won in 2010 and “Recovery in 2011. Eminem has won 13 Grammy Awards over the course of his career. His song “Lose Yourself” won named “Best Original Song” by the Academy Awards. “Lose Yourself” became hip hop's longest running Number 1 hit single.

After his 2005 tour, Eminem went on an extended break. In May 2009 he released “Relapse,” his first set since “Encore” in 2004. To date Eminem has sold over 86.5 million worldwide albums, which makes the rapper one of the world's best-selling artists. He released “Recovery,” his seventh album, in 2010. It became the rapper's sixth consecutive No. 1 album for the US. “Recovery” was 2010's best selling album and the all-time top selling digital album.
