The American rapper, songwriter, record producer and actor Eminem was born in Saint Joseph, Missouri on October 17, 1972. He also goes by the name Slim Shady as his alter ego. The popularity of the rapper helped to bring Eminem's group D12 mainstream popularity. Eminem is also one of the members of Bad Meets Evil, a hip hop duo, along with Royce da 5'9". He is the 2000s decade best selling artist and one of the world's top selling artists. Rolling Stone has dubbed Eminem King of Hip Hop. Eminem, including his recordings with Bad Meets Evil and D12, has had ten No. 1 albums on Billboard's 200 chart. Eminem has sold over 49.1 albums and 42 million tracks in the U.S. Worldwide he has sold 100 million albums.

Eminem rose to popularity with the release of "The Slim Shady LP," his debut album, in 1999. His debut release along with 2000's "The Marshall Mathers LP" and 2002's "The Eminem Show" were all Grammy Award winners. Eminem became the first musician to win three Best Rap Album awards in a row. In 2005 Eminem went on hiatus. In May 2009 he released "Relapse," his seventh album. It was the first album released by Eminem since his 2004 set "Encore." He followed that album up with "Recovery," his seventh album, in 2010. The album was a huge international success. The album was 2010's best selling worldwide album. "Relapse" and "Recovery" both won Grammy Awards. He has won 13 Grammys over the course of his career. Major influences for Eminem include Ice-T, Nas, AZ, Tupac Shakur, Dr. Dre, the Beastie Boys, Newcleus, Big Daddy Kane and Masta Ace.

In addition to his music, Eminem has also founded Shady Records, a record label and Shade 45, a radio channel with Sirius XM Radio.
In 2002 he also started his acting career, starring in 8 Mile, a hip hop film. Eminem is scheduled to star in "Have Gun, Will Travel" as well as "Shady Talez," two films set to be released in 2013. Eminem has had cameo appearances in 2001's The Wash, 2009's Funny People as well the television show Entourage.
