daft punk Biography
The electronic music duo Daft Punk consists of the French musicians Thomas Bangalter (bassist) and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo (guitarist). The group became very popular during the late 1990s in France as part of the house movement. They continued to enjoy success by combining synthpop and house elements. The songs of Daft Punk are an essential part of France's house scene. From 1996 through 2008 Pedro Winter from Ed Banger Records managed the group. Groups like the Rolling Stones and the Beach Boys strongly influenced Daft Punk early in their career.
In 1997 Daft Punk released "Homework," their debut album. Their follow up album "Discovery" was released in 2001 and enjoyed even more success. "Discovery" spawned the hit club singles "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger," "Digital Love" and "One More Time." Daft Punk released "Human After All," their third album, in 2005. The singles "Technologic" and "Robot Rock" were popular in the U.K. In 2006 and 2007 the duo went on tour and also released "Alive 2007." The live album won the Best Electronic/Dance Album Grammy Award. The pair composed the film score for Tron: Legacy. The film's soundtrack album was released in 2010.
Daft Punk is known for having elaborate live shows, where they incorporate theatrical effects and visual elements into their music. The duo is known for emphasizing story and visual components in their musical productions. They also are known for wearing disguises while they perform, including ornate robot costumes.
Currently Daft Punk is working on a new album. It is a collaborative effort along with Nile Rodgers, frontman of Chic, and songwriter-singer Paul Williams. They began producing the album in 2010, and it is currently scheduled to be released in Spring 2013.
