Muse and Rage Against the Machine will be leading an event on July 30 at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum called L.A. Rising.

The lineup for the day-long event will include sets from El Gran Silencio, Immortal Techniques, Lauryn Hill and Rise Against, the Chicago punk rockers.

Since Rage split up, they have played only one gig in their hometown of Los Angeles- a benefit in July 2010 for Sound Strike, an organization working to defeat a controversial anti-immigration law in Arizona. Also in 2007, the band reunited to perform in Indio, CA at Coachella festival. Coachella promoter Goldenvoice is also the promoter for L.A. Rising.

On Friday, May 13, tickets are going on sale via Ticketmaster. Ticket prices are $99 and $69 plus fees.

A presale will be held on May 12 for the Street Team of KROQ, an L.A. Radio station.

U2, Muse Become High Profile Cover Bands at Brazilian Nightclub

U2, Muse Become High Profile Cover Bands at Brazilian Nightclub

Members of Muse and U2 covered songs from Talking Heads, The Rolling Stones and David Bowie at a Brazilian nightclub during a secret show.

The bands, after finishing their stadium tour of South American on April 13, met up at the nightclub Bar Secreto in Sao Paulo.

During the show Larry Mullen and Bono joined Dom Howard and sang “Psycho Killer,” the Talking Heads track.

Later that night The Edge sang “Miss You” by the Rolling Stones and “Let’s Dance” by David Bowie karaoke-style.

Muse supported U2 on their tour for several dates in Argentina and Brazil.

Phish, Muse, Arcade Fire to Headline Outside Lands Festival

Phish, Muse, Arcade Fire to Headline Outside Lands Festival

On Monday, producers announced that Arcade Fire, Phish and Muse will be headlining the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival’s fourth annual edition. The event will be returning to their original run of three days on August 12-14 at Golden Gate Park.

Over 50 performers and bands are scheduled to perform at the mega event, including big name artists like the Roots, the Decemberists, Girl Talk, MGMT and the Black Keys. On Thursday tickets will be going on sale.

We are ecstatic about this stated Gregg Perloff, Another Planet Entertainment founder, the concert-promotion firm from Berkeley co-presenting the festival along with New Orleans-based Super Fly Productions, who also present Tennessee’s Bonnaroo Music and Art Festival. We believe this is the world’s best lineup.

Organizers last year had to cope with a summer concert season that was sluggish by trimming down the festival to just two days. The event still drew approximately 80,000 people over the course of the weekend to the park. Perloff is hoping with the bill this year to have even bigger numbers.

He said, the great thing about these bands is that they are credible and popular. That combination is rare.

Other performers scheduled to make appearances include OK Go and Beirut, Erykah Badu, the Original Meters, Deadmau5, Warren Haynes Band, Big Audio Dynamite, Arctic Monkeys and John Fogerty. Two sets will be formed by Phish. SFOutsideLands.com lists the complete lineup.

Once again, the festival will be spotlighting several local wineries and restaurants. Several art installations will also be spread across Speedway Meadow and Polo Field.

Perloff said, each year we want to do things better. This is a work in progress. However we have always thought to hit our stride would take four years.

Three days passes for Outside Land Music and Arts Festival taking place on August 12-14 will cost $175 to $199.50. Three day VIP tickets cost $450. A three day VIP parking pass will cost $140. For more information, visit SFOutsideLands.com.

Eminem, Muse, Foo Fighters Leaked as Lollapalooza Headliners

Eminem, Muse, Foo Fighters Leaked as Lollapalooza Headliners

Three headliners for this summer’s Lollapalooza have been confirmed by anonymous industry sources according to Billboard. Allegedly the Foo Fighters, Muse and Eminem will receive top billing for the three day event at Grant Park in Chicago on August 5-7.

The news about Eminem is refreshing since hip-hop isn’t always hit very hard by the festival. It’s isn’t surprising given the comeback energy the rapper from Detroit has shown. The world is still buzzing over his acclaimed Chrysler Super Bowl ad. It is also expected he will be making multiple trips up to the podium on Sunday during the Grammy Awards. His album “Recovery” has received ten Grammy nominations. It will be the first Lollapalooza booking for Eminem.

This year the Foo Fighters are getting back into the game following the release in April of their new albums along with many other festival appearances. In 2010, Muse headlined Glastonbury and Coachella and this year is joining U2′s world tour.

Lollapalooza spokesmen wouldn’t confirm the report. It is expected that an official announcement will be made in April.

Muse Booking Its New Gig in Space?

In an interview with British tabloid The Sun, Muse lead vocalist Matt Bellamy shares his plans for the band for the foreseeable future, and that includes a gig in outer space.

Far fetch as it may seem, it isn’t really since billionaire and Virgin Group of Companies CEO Richard Branson has recently launched Virgin Galactic, which aims to build a spacecraft that will allow anyone who has at least $200,000 to take a trip in outer space, which further solidifies the band’s dream – or more like a plan, since it has the possibility of being turned into a reality – to perform where the air is light and thin and the stars are closer.

There’s one problem though, “we do have a lot of equipment, so I guess we’d have to use pods to carry our stuff and we’d scale back the shows a lot,” Bellamy thought out loud.  Just when we thought he really had thought the idea through, he commented “maybe I’ve seen ‘The Jetsons’ too many times”, and maybe he has, but nothing is impossible nowadays.

So while Muse awaits for their time in outer space, they will be holding opening act duties first for the continuation of U2’s 360 tour this spring.  Muse will be the front act for the stops in Brazil, Chile and Argentina in March.

Muse Takes Home Favorite Alternative Artist Award at AMAs

Muse, the British rock trio, was honored as Favorite Artist for the category Alternative Rock Music at last night’s American Music Award’s ceremony held in Los Angeles at Nokia Theater.  Viewers voted online to determine the winners.  The award from the AMA follows their Best Special Effects award from the MTV 2010 Video Music Awards for the band’s “Uprising” video.

“Uprising” is the first single off of “The Resistance,” the fifth studio album from Muse.  For 19 weeks in a row the song topped the Alternative Rock chart of Mediabase.  That broke the consecutive weeks record for No. 1 for Mediabase’s 2009 Alternative Rock chart.

Muse is comprised of Matt Bellamy, vocalist/guitarist, Chris Wolstenholme, bassist, and Dom Howard, drummer.  Recently the band wrapped up the second leg on their tour of North America to support “The Resistance.”  The set earned the band their highest debut ever on Billboard’s album chart when it came in at No. 3.  “Black Holes and Revelations,” the previous album from Muse that was released in 2006, peaked at the No. 9 spot on Billboard’s album chart.  In addition, “The Resistance” received twenty total No. 1 debuts all over the world, including the U.K., Ireland, Italy, Germany, France and Australia.

Muse Brokers Deal with the Devil for Twilight Soundtrack

Forget Team Jackob or Team Edward.  Muse may not be a Team Twilight member.  Chris Wolstoneholme, bassist, says the only reason the band has contributed to the three Twilight soundtracks is to expand their U.S. fan base, no matter what the cost is.

Wolstoneholme said to the BBC, I don’t know how cool this is, being on this type of thing.  However some times you just need to get the music out in different ways.  In America you need to take all the opportunities that you get.  Sometimes you need to sell your souls.

In addition Wolstenholme talked about how frustrating the back and forths were between the studio and band as to how their songs would get used in the film.  While we were writing in the studio they would say one minute that they wanted the song for the ending credit, another time they would say that they wanted it for another scene.  The bassist admits that the first Twilight series film is the only one that he has watched.  Then it was a different scene.  Finally we just said do whatver you want with the song.  At this point we don’t care.

There’s no doubt that an appearance on Twilight can garner a huge level of exposure.  The lead single for “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse Soundtrack” was “Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever),” from Muse.  It debuted on Billboard’s 200 albums chart at No. 2.  During its first week it sold 144,000 copies.  The film in the first six days of its release to U.S. theatres brought in $175.3 million.

Muse in the last year has reached the status of filling US arenas.  Wolstenholme said it was really great getting to finally take the full production over that we have been touring Europe with.  America for quite some time fell to the wayside.  Not much was happening and we had problems with our U.S. record company.

Muse to Take it Easy Following World Tour

Muse has revealed that after they wrap their world tour up in December they will be taking a music break.

The rock band, who are featured on the newest Twilight soundtrack, say that next year instead of touring they will be working on a new studio album.

Chris Wolstenholm, bassist said, definitely we will start next year to work on a new set.  Over the past 12 years, the most time I think we have ever had off is around six weeks.  We deserve a break.

With America that wasn’t something we expected to ever happen.  It was something I think we really did appreciate.  It will carry on hopefully.

Recently Muse accepted the Nordoff Robbins Silver Clef award for this year.  Last year they turned the prize down.
