The most notorious band in history takes on Sin City
So proclaims Motley Crue’s website announcing the band’s residency at the Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in February. The nearly three-week long stint will take place from February 3 to February 19 at the hotel, and the website promises the band’s “most interactive fan show ever.”
Lead singer Vince Neil proclaimed that the shows will be some of the most elaborate performances in the band’s history. Quoted by the Los Angeles Times from a conference call announcing the shows, he said, “This show is going to be more towards the Cirque [du Soleil]-type, over-the-top, full-production thing. We’re really not interested in just going out there and playing songs.
In a press release, drummer Tommy Lee echoed Neil’s thoughts, saying Sin City is the perfect location for the band. “I don’t know about you, but when I think of Motley Crue I think of filthy sex, drugs, a REALLY big show and way too much fun… sounds like Las Vegas doesn’t it? A match made in heaven!!!”
Though Vegas residencies have become a tradition among many rock artists, the Crue represents the first metal band to take on a prolonged stint in the city. The press release also said the band intends to do things a little differently than other performers, promising a “never-before-done-before and incredibly interactive Vegas experience.”
Motley Crue released its most recent album, Saints of Los Angeles in 2008, which was the ninth studio album for the band. Rumors that are yet to be confirmed speculate the band currently is working on new material. Formed in 1981, the band released its debut album, Too Fast for Love, independently the same year. They were later signed to Elektra and re-released the album with a different track listing and slightly reworked version of some songs.
