Lilith Fair Cancels 10 Dates Through US and Canada

Lilith Fair is continuing to struggle in its festival circuit return. Another ten dates have been canceled by the organizers, including a Montreal July 23 engagement.

Planned Lilith visits have also been canceled for Dallas, Houston and Austin, TX, Birmingham, AL, West Palm Beach and Tampa, FL, Charlotte and Raleigh, NC and Salt Lake City.

Phoenix and Nashville shows had been canceled already.

Organizers said that refunds will be made available at their points of purchase.

The all-female tour, due to the cancellations, may slightly reconfigure the lineup for their twenty plus shows remaining on the tour schedule.

Terry McBride, co-founder of Lilith, issued a statement to apologize to the fans. Ongoing economic struggles were pointed out as the reason why the shows were being canceled.

He said, this summer concert season is one of the more challenging. There have been many tours that have been canceled outright. Everybody who is involved with this tour wants to apologize to all of our fans as well as artists who were scheduled for playing in these markets. We also would like to express appreciation for everyone who has supported the return of the festival.

Lilith is still the only tour like this. We are very confident the fans are going to be amazed with what the dates offer.

The lineup for Lilith Fair includes Sheryl Crow and Sarah McLachlan, the co-founder. It kicked off in Calgary on Sunday. Questions regarding troubles with this year’s tour were dismissed by organized as media negativity.

An open letter was even published by McBride on his blog which was addressed to media critics. McBride claimed they were targeting the festival unfairly.

He wrote, what drives there passion for writing speculative and negative commentary on a festival that is giving and socially positive?

Where is this desire for demeaning and hurting the efforts being made by thousands of people. We simply would like to give something back and help make society better.

However, McBride in an interview with Canadian Press last week did admit that tour ticket sales for this year have been soft. The tour ran originally from 1997-1999.

McBride said that every week he would be assessing whether or not more shows would need to be canceled.

News got worse for the festival after Kelly Clarkson, former star of “American Idol,” on her website to announce she was canceling her Cleveland Lilith performance.

She wrote that news of Lilith canceling dates and her current studio work had led her to decide not to do any touring this summer.

I will miss seeing y’all, she wrote, but hopefully when you hear about what we have been working on that you will just as excited as me.
