Guns N’ Roses Plays Club Dates Including Three New York Shows

After recently wrapping up an arena tour, Guns N’ Roses has announced a handful of theater dates throughout February, starting next week when the band will play three dates in New York during fashion week.

With each show held at a different venue, the first show will be held February 10 at the Roseland Ballroom. After that, the band will play Terminal 5 on February 12 and Webster Hall on February 15. For the show on the 15th, the marquee for Webster Hall will be changed to the Ritz, which is what the venue was called when Guns N’ Roses last played there 24 years ago.

That performance was recorded as an MTV concert called “Live at the Ritz,” which is now a heavily sought after bootleg. The band has never played the Roseland Ballroom or Terminal 5 before.

Following the New York shows, the group will head to the Midwest for one show at the House of Blues in Chicago on February 19. Then they will head back to the east coast for a show in Silver Spring, Md. at the Fillmore and then another House of Blues show, this time in Atlantic City, N.J on February 24.

In other Guns N’ Roses news, it was announced in December that the band will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year, along with the Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Faces/Small Faces. The induction ceremony will be held April 14 in Cleveland, Ohio.

Singer Axl Rose is the only remaining original member of Guns N’ Roses, which released the multi-platinum debut Appetite for Destruction in 1987. No word has been released as to which lineup will appear at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

The band’s most recent record, Chinese Democracy, was released in 2008, 17 years after the most recent album to that point, Use Your Illusion II.

Topping the list of this year’s inductees into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (at least in name recognition) are Guns N’ Roses, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Beastie Boys as the 1980s get most of the love from the Hall. Additional recognizable names include the Small Faces/the Faces, songwriter Laura Nyro, British folkie Donovan and blues musician Freddie King. On the production side, Glyn Johns, known for his work with the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and many more, got the nod, as did Tom Dowd, Don Kirshner and Cosimo Matassa. The induction ceremony will be held next April at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in downtown Cleveland.

Rod Stewart and Ron Wood, both of whom played with the Faces, will join a small number of musicians who have been inducted into the Hall of Fame twice. Rod Stewart was inducted as a solo artist in 1994, and Ron Wood was inducted in 1989 for his membership in the Rolling Stones. Eric Clapton is the only artist that has ever been inducted three times, for his work with the Yardbirds in 1992, his work with Cream in 1993 and in 2000 for his solo career.

While both Stewart and Wood played with the Faces, the band was originally formed as the Small Faces in 1965. That band disbanded in 1969, and the remaining members recruited Stewart and Wood from the Jeff Beck Group to form a new group, which they named the Faces. Because of the distinctive personnel and sound of each band, there has been some controversy as to whether the two should have been inducted as one group.

Nominees that were not inducted this year include notable names such as Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, the Cure, Heart and Rufus and Chaka Khan.

Axl Rose Reportedly has Three Albums of New Guns N Roses Songs

Axl Rose Reportedly has Three Albums of New Guns N Roses Songs

Just like having to wait ages for a bus and then having multiple come rolling along at once, Axl Rose has under his belt enough recorded Guns N’ Roses material for three albums worth.

The singer from Guns N’ Roses had been presiding over “Chinese Democracy,” his 2008 album, for 14 years. However, it appears that a new rush of musical inspiration is now gushing from Rose’s fingertips.

In an interview with Triple M, an Australian radio station, the current guitarist of Guns N’ Roses, DJ Ashba, revealed Rose late at night often whips his piano out to run through some new songs. Some of them are amazing, Ashba added.

Axl has lots of great tunes up his sleeve. He’s probably got about three albums worth recorded. Some of the things I’ve heard, many nights I’ve been in his room at the hotel and he sits at his piano and starts to play. I’ll say, that’s amazing. People need to hear this. He will say, it’s just something I’m tinkering with.

Although he is best known for having relaxed attitudes about stage curfews and his tantrums, Ashba vouches for the songwriting panache of Rose.

Ashba said, in terms of music he’s a genius. I can’t wait to have the chance to sit with my acoustic guitar and write. He has a very, very rare gift.

Guns N Roses Plagued by Delays at Reading, Leeds, Dublin

Things are just not going well for Axl Rose and the rest of Guns N’ Roses at the start of their European trek.

At the Reading and Leeds Festivals in UK a week ago, grunge rock legends Guns N’ Roses were welcomed with bottles plunging from the audience and a resonating “boo”  after taking the stage an hour later than scheduled, or perhaps, an hour later than what was announced, whichever you would want to believe.

The unfortunate and chaotic scenario happened for the third time when the band graced the stage of the O2 in Dublin last night, September 1, once again an hour late.  Apparently, GNR’s “Welcome to the Jungle” performance was perfectly suited for what was transpiring that evening, but lead singer Axl Rose was in no savage mood.  “If you don’t want to have fun, all you’ve got to do is let us know. We’ve got no problem — we’ll go on our way”, Rose addressed the crowd and disappeared on the stage for a whole hour.  The band returned 30 minutes before midnight to finish off their set.

The next day, event promoter MCD and O2 reps issued a statement for the fans who attended the event.  They apologized for the delay but they also condemned the potentially dangerous or harmful fit the audience threw at the band, “no artist should be subjected to missiles and unknown substances being thrown at them”, the reps stated.

But Rose was not to be silenced.  In his Twitter page, the vocalist tweeted that they were not the cause of the delays and blamed the promoters, organizers, managers and agents for the misappropriation of time per band and the misinformation that was spread through the media.

Rose thanked the fans for their support but apologized to them as well, saying that both the fans and all the bands are just victims of such music events that Rose described as “a cash grab with no respect for the fans or the band”.  He event went on to slam the performing industry itself as spearheaded by managers, organizers and promoters, stating that he and the band had no say whatsoever on the shows they were “legally obligated to honor…whether against our will or better judgment”.

GNR’s European trail continues two days from now, on September 4 in Rome.  The tour concludes with a show in Barcelona on October 23.

Guns n’ Roses Breaks Out ‘Chinese Democracy’ in Canada

Axl and company have chosen to bypass their American brethren for the great white north, staking a claim on a 13-date run in Canada. The frosty experience will get started in Winnipeg, Manitoba on January 13th and mush its way to Halifax, Nova Scotia on February 4th. The dates have been dubbed as the beginnings of the “Guns n’ Roses Chinese Democracy World Tour.”

Presales will rev up on October 21st with prices ranging from $49.50 to $89.50 before Ticketmaster levies their absorbent cut. The band is expected to begin rehearsing in Los Angeles shortly as they set their sights on Southeast Asia with a December 11th date in Taiwan.

“Chinese Democracy” is the band’s long awaited sixth album that was released on November 23, 2008. The album was fifteen years in the making and the New York Times declared it the most expensive recording never made, weighing in at an eye-popping $13 million.
