Anvil Heads Out on Tour After Film’s Success

Anvil, the heavy metal band from Canada, will be traveling to Los Angeles and attending the Critics Choice awards presentation being held on Friday January 15 at Hollywood Palladium. “Anvil! The Story of Anvil,” the band’s Cinderella story, has received a Critics Choice Movie Award nomination in the Best Documentary category. A whole host of film critics associations all over the continent, including Las Vegas, Toronto, San Francisco and Chicago have named the rockumentary as one of the Best Documentaries of 2009 as well as the National Society of Film Critics, Online Film Critics Society and International Documentary Association. The Village Voice, Newsweek, Washington Post and New York Times also included the rockumentary in their Top Ten Year End lists. The Critics Choice Movie Awards 15th Annual show will be broadcast live on January 15 at PM on VH1.

So there’s the good news for you.

The bad news is that the band’s Los Angeles trip means that Anvil, who last week kicked off their North American tour, “The Anvil Experience,” in Cleveland, OH will be forced to cancel their show in Baltimore, MD on January 14 as well as their January 15 date for New York City. However, all the news isn’t bad. The band has rescheduled their New York show to Friday, March 18. It will still be held at The Gramercy Theatre with a show time of 8 PM. Tickets that were purchased for the show on January 15 will be honored for the March 19 show.

There’s additional tour news for Anvil. “The Anvil Experience” shows originally were set to open with screenings of the documentary “Anvil! The Story of Anvil,” with the band following playing their live set. According to Steve “Lips” Kudlow, Anvil’s vocalist/guitarist, we have been so lucky with how successful the DVD and film have been, and with so many people already having seen that we decided the tour will be all about our music. We will just play our set. We will rock with our fans. Our “The Anvil Experience” shows are going to be all about nights of pure and unadulterated rock-n-roll. Opening the shows will be local bands.

The concert tour of 27 dates, the first major tour for the band in over a decade, is to support “Anvil! The Story of Anvil,” in addition to the latest album of the band’s, “This is Thirteen.” One rock critic referred to the new album as the best record of Anvil’s in more than two decades.
