The American country songwriter-singer Carrie Underwood was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on March 10, 1983. She rose to fame in 2005 when was the American Idol winner during the show's fourth season.

Since that time Underwood has achieved multi-platinum status as a recording artist, won multiple Grammy Awards, was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry, nominated for a Golden Globe Award, and is a three time Female Vocalist winner from the Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music. She is also ACM's reigning Entertainer of the Year. Underwood is the first female artist ever to win consecutive Entertainer of the Year Awards (2009 and 2010) from the Academy of Country Music.

“Some Hearts,” Underwood's debut album, has been certified by the RIAA as seven times platinum. The set spawned three No. 1 hits on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart as well as a No. 1 hit on Billboard's Hot 100 Songs chart. “Carnival Ride,” Underwood's second album, was released in October 2007. Through January 2010 the set has sold more than 3 million copies and been certified by the RIAA as 3 times Platinum. It has also produced four No. 1 hits on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart. In November 2009 Underwood released “Play On,” her third album. The RIAA has certified the set as 2 times Platinum. The album produced three No. 1 hits on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart. Through May 2010 she has sold more than 16 million albums and 20 million singles worldwide.

Underwood and Reba McEntire are tied with Most No. 1 hits on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart with ten. During the 2000 decade she was the only Country solo artist that had a No. 1 hit on Billboard's Hot 100 Songs chart with “Inside Your Heaven.” Billboard named “Some Hearts” as Best Country Album for the 2000 Decade.
