black eyed peas Biography

The hip hop group The Black Eyed Peas were formed in 1995 in Los Angeles, California. Group members include multi-instrumentalist and rapper will.i.am, singer-rapper Fergie and rappers Taboo and apl.de.ap. Since releasing Elephunk, their third album in 2003, they have sold approximately 27 million worldwide albums as well as 20 million singles. In 2003 Where Is the Love? was the group's first worldwide hit. The song topped more than ten worldwide charts. Monkey Business, their next album, was also highly successful. In the U.S. the set was certified 4x platinum and spawned the hit singles Don't Phunk with My Heart and My Humps.

In 2009 the Black Eyed Peas held the No. 1 and No.2 spots simultaneously on Billboard's Hot 100 chart with I Gotta Feeling and Boom Boom Pow. Their next song Meet Me Halfway was also successful from their set The E.N.D. The three singles combined topped the charts for 30 weeks in a row in 2009. Later the album produced the third number one Hot 100 single with Imma Be.

Before becoming Black Eyed Peas members, apl.de.ap and will.i.am were members of Atban Klann and signed with Ruthless Records. The group performed in February 2011 at the halftime show for Superbowl XLV.
