The English singer-songwriter Adele was born on May 5 1988 in London, England. She won the first Critics' Choice award from the BRIT Awards and was named 2008's predicted number one breakthrough act in 2008 by Sounds of 2008, an annual poll of BBC music critics. She also won the Urban Music Award as Best Jazz Act. Adele has been nominated for multiple Grammys and in 2009 won Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Best New Artist.

Adele posted her three song demo on MySpace, which drew attention from XL Recordings. She signed with their label and has received widespread and critically recognition since her debut album “19” was released. The album debuted in the number one spot and in the UK is 2x certified platinum. Her US career was boosted by her appearance in late 2008 on an episode of “Saturday Night Live” where Sarah Palin also made an appearance. In June 2009, Adele headlined a bill of three acts at the Hollywood Bowl. In January 2011, Adele's second album was released in the UK entitled “21.” The set is due to be released in the US in February 2011.
