Frequently Asked Questions
What songs will Counting Crows play in concert?
There are bands like Pearl Jam and Dave Matthews Band that are well known for changing their setlist every night, and there are bands that play the same set every night, for better or worse. Counting Crows fall into the former category where they switch out songs daily, going as far as to falsely start songs or take an extended pause every few tracks to get their setliist on the same page, literally.
Counting Crows do not have the massive and prolific catalog of material to select from that other artists may have. Their five studio albums is so eclectic and varied that it provides a well of richness. There are a few distinct patterns that are picked up on through looking at their shows. The group arguably has three huge hits that go beyond anything else: “A Long December,” “Mr. Jones,” and “Round Here.” The band rarely, if ever, plays all three and usually opt for just one or two of these big tunes.
Another element to their 2014 tour is the inclusion of new songs. Their record Somewhere Under Wonderland is expected for a September 2014 release, and it is represented on this tour with anywhere between 2-4 new songs per show. The new record has a very country-inspired feel that sounds reminiscent of the current music climate. Two of the new songs are “When I Dream of Michelangelo” and “Johnny Appleseed’s Lament.”
A few other big songs are cycled throughout the tour, including “Colorblind,” “Omaha,” and “Monkey” from 1996’s, Recovering the Satellites. The group sprinkles songs throughout their three eras, including their 90’s alt rock that comes through in “Anna Begins” from August and Everything After, as well as material from their country-pop era in 2002’s, Hard Candy, and lastly their strong country rock leanings from their new record and 2008’s Saturday Nights and Sunday Mornings.

Should I still expect that free form style of the group?
Counting Crows is just as well known for their rotating setlist as they are for extending songs, changing lyrics, and generally evolving forms into new creations entirely on the stage. For example, the famous “Round Here” was turned into an 11 minute epic of new verses and different melodies on their 2011 release of August and Everything After Live.
You can safely expect this same type of changes, but it is not necessarily as common as before. The group chooses one or two select songs to change up drastically, while the rest remain rather close to their recorded version. A few songs open to this live reinvention are “Anna Begins,” “Rain King,” and “Hanginaround.”
How long is a Counting Crows concert?
Counting Crows shows these newer bands how it is done with a very solid two hour set every night out.
Who is opening the show?
90’s greats Toad the Wet Sprocket is opening for the band on this tour. They have their own big hits, including “All I Want” and “Walk on the Ocean.” The group released New Constellation in 2013 after a nearly 17 year hiatus.
How do I get access to presale tickets for Counting Crows’s tour?
Counting Crows presale tickets are available through two major outlets. The first is the American Express ticketing platform. You will of course need an American Express card for purchase, but it is the most immediate option for account holders and fans. The alternative to that is Presale Passwords Info. This independent resource collects passwords from across many sources and offers them in one intuitive spot.
Who is Counting Crows’ publicist and press contact?
The band is directly managed by rock and roll manager Aaron Ray who also works with Slash and Spanish pop kingpin, Enrique Iglesias. You can likely best contact Ray through his official LinkedIn page. He also works under Custom Collider Digital Business Development.
Concert Reviews
“When Adam sat at the piano for “A Long December,” I recognized it immediately. It’s been arguably my favorite Crows song since it came out back in 1996, and it’s one of those that I can’t imagine I’ll ever tire of hearing. Something about the instruments made me feel like I was somewhere in Italy, and I was briefly transported to a happy place. What’s better than that? – Stacy Scales of Spinning Platters
“Duritz — a few pounds lighter and sporting much taller dreads these days — seems back on his game, and the reinvigorated band makes up for whichever ways he might still be lacking. Previously, if the singer was in a somber mood, the group would follow suit. This time they stepped forward (while Duritz literally stepped back, and a few times even left the stage) and brought their sound harder than before, engaging the crowd more than I’ve seen in years of catching Crows shows.” – Roxanne Hack of the Orange County Register
“The even better news — for them and us — was that a trio of cuts from upcoming LP Somewhere Under Wonderland (the band’s first original material in six years, due this fall) thrummed with slick hooks. Fans are so hungry for a good batch of fresh stuff that “new songs” were no time for bathroom breaks; instead, bouncy midtempo chuggers such as Scarecrow and Earthquake Driver were time to rejoice, to lock eyes with the person next to you in head-nodding relief, and maybe even disbelief: “This is GOOD.” – Sean Daly of the Tampa Bay Times
