Vertical Horizon Finds New Life in ‘Burning the Days’

After being on hiatus for five years Vertical Horizon, the alt rock band, have released a new album entitled “Burning the Days,” along with a mix of club shows and in-store performances which will last throughout the fall.

The band from Los Angeles will kick off their return tour on October 26 in Syracuse, NY. This will be followed up by a series of East Coast stops through early November. Intermingled between the 13 eastern casino and club shows will be free performances in-store at four Borders Bookstores. The tour will finish up in Council Bluffs, IA on November 12.

The sixth studio album from the band, “Burning the Days,” hit the shelves in retail stores on their label Outfall Records last month. The 12 track album is the first new collection of material for Vertical Horizon since “Go” in 2003.

Matt Scannell, frontman for the band, recently said in an Associated Press interview we had some difficult moments trying to deal with our record labels at the end of the relationship. We had an incredible peak as well as a valley. I had to step back so I could reconnect with reasons for doing all of this to begin with.

Scannell was able to round up Keith Kane, founding member and guitarist, Sean Hurley, bassist, and Ron Lavella, drummer, to work on their latest album, featuring Neil Peart, drummer for Rush, and Richard Marx, songwriter. The set was recorded by the band over a period of two years in Scannell’s studio.

The band Vertical Horizon formed in 1991. In 1999 with “Everything You Want,” their fourth album, they took mainstream radio completely by storm. The title track of the album hit No. 1 of the Billboard Hot 100, becoming one of the year 2000′s most played singles, with the album selling almost two million copies.
