The American indie rock group Vampire Weekend was formed in 2006 in New York City. The four band members of the band are Ezra Koenig (guitar, lead vocals), Chris Baio (backing vocals, bass guitar), Chris Tomson (percussion, drums) and Rostam Batmanglij (backing vocals, guitar, keyboards). The band signed with XL Recordings and in 2008 released “Vampire Weekend,” their first album. The set spawned the singles “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa,” “Oxford Comma,” “A-Punk” and “Mansard Roof.” In 2010, the band released “Contra,” their latest album.

Vampire Weekend band members met at Columbia University and started to play shows in the area. In 2007 the band toured with The Shins in the UK. In March 2008 Spin magazine declared Vampire Weekend to be ”The Year's Best New Band” and they appeared on the cover of Spin Magazine even before they had released their debut album. In January 2008, the band released their self-titled debut album. It peaked in the No. 17 spot on Billboard's 200 chart.

“Contra,” the second album from Vampire Weekend, was released in January 2010. “Cousins,” the first single, was released in November 2009. The album debuted in the No. 1 spot on Billboard's 200 chart. In February 2010 the band toured the UK and Europe with Fan Death, the Canadian electro duo, providing support. “Giving Up the Gun,” their next single, was released in February 2010 and “Holiday,” their third single, was released in June 2010.

Vampire Weekend kicked off a tour of North America with the Dum Dum Girls and Beach House on August 27, 2010 at Malkin Bowl in Vancouver, BC. “Contra” received a Grammy nomination as Best Alternative Album.
