Twilight Americana Festival Returns to Athens with Leon Russell, Deer Tick
The 6th annual Twilight Americana music festival in Athens, Georgia will feature Leon Russell and Deer Tick, among many others.
The festival will be held April 25-28 at venues all around the city, including the 40 Watt, Georgia Theatre and the Melting Point. Other acts appearing at the festival include Mike Cooley (of Drive-By Truckers), Leftover Salmon, Lera Lynn, The Whiskey Gentry, Larry Keel, Little Country Giants, Jim White, Dave Marr, Don Chambers and the Darnell Boys.
Tickets to the festival are $50, and include admission to all Twilight Americana events. Leftover Salmon will play Wednesday, April 24, and tickets for that show are $10 in addition to the regular festival pass.
The festival takes place during the same weekend as the annual Terrapin Twilight Criterion, a series of bike races held in the streets of downtown Athens. The event has been held every year since 1980, when it became the first night bike race in the U.S. in 60 years. Today, 150 cyclist race in the main event, which is held Saturday night.
This year will be the first year an outdoor stage has been set up for the event. Performance on the outdoor stage will be on Friday night, and the lineup for that show will be announced at a later time.
VIP tickets also are available for the show, which includes access to a special VIP area during the bike race with complimentary beer. These tickets also include access to the VIP Kick Off Party at the Green Room on Thursday before the Mike Cooley show at the Georgia Theatre. VIP Tickets cost $125 per person.
The festival was founded by Athens singer/songwriter Adam Klein, and will be presented by him and local musician and photographer Justin Evans. Artists that have played the event in the past include Bloodkin, Vigilantes of Love, Shovels & Rope, Shonna Tucker and Hope For Agoldensummer.
