Tupac Hologram to Tour? Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg Working on Potential Tour

Perhaps the most notable part of this year’s Coachella Music and Arts Festival was the appearance of the late rapper Tupac Shakur in hologram form during a Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg performance at the festival. The appearance almost immediately sparked talk of an upcoming tour featuring the hologram.

Yesterday, Dr. Dre posted a video to YouTube that addressed the rumors of the tour. Though he said that the hologram was created just for Coachella, he did not rule out the possibility of an eventual tour.

“It was strictly for Coachella, get it right,” Dr. Dre, otherwise known as Andre Young, said in a video from a backstage area at Coachella before his second performance of the festival last night. “I want to get rid of all the rumors out there. This was not done for a tour.”

And while that sounds like the end of tour talks, Dre went on to leave the statement somewhat open ended.

“If a tour happens, we’ll see,” he said, and then added, “this was done strictly for Coachella 2012, baby, just for you.”

He also gave a shout out to AV Concepts and Digital Domain, which created the hologram. The rapper thanked them for making his “dream come to life.” Dre ended the video by addressing his upcoming performance. “Now I gotta get my ass on stage and rock this motherf—cker.”

The first rumors on the tour were reported by the Wall Street Journal shortly after the first performance of the hologram. The newspaper reported that there were two options being discussed for the tour. One would be a large stadium tour involving Eminem, 50 Cent and Wiz Khalifa, along with Dre and Snoop Dogg. A second, more intimate option, would just feature the latter two rappers and a more limited tour visiting smaller venues.
