trey songz Biography

Trey Songz is an American hip-hop and R&B artist and producer best known for his hit singles 'Say Aah' and 'Bottoms Up' and also for being frequently featured in other singles from his hip-hop and R&B contemporaries such as Young Joc, Drake, Ludacris, Toni Braxton and Mary J. Blige.

Born Tremaine Aldon Neverson in 1984, Trey was born to a military father and as such, he and his family had to constantly move, but eventually settled down in Petersburg, Virginia. Growing up, he never dreamed of becoming a recording artist until people started praising his singing abilities. During his early teenage years, his reluctance to perform was gradually transformed into confidence thanks to his innate talents and encouragement from his family and friends. He was only 16 years old when prolific music producer Troy Taylor discovered him and signed him two years later under Atlantic Records.

In 2005, Trey released his debut album 'I Gotta Make It' in 2005. It peaked at the bottom of the top 20 of the Billboard 200 and at no.6 of the R&B charts. It released two singles 'Gotta Make It' featuring Twista and 'Gotta Go', both of which didn't perform well in the Billboard 100, but helped him gradually earn mainstream recognition, an occurrence that was evident in his second album 'Trey Day' (2007), which entered the Billboard 200 at no.11 and the R&B charts at no.2. The best performing single from the release was 'Can't Help but Wait', peaking at no. 14 and no.2 at the Billboard 100 and the R&B charts respectively. 'Ready', his third album released in 2009, peaked at no. 3 at the Billboard 200 and contained the top 10 and platinum certified single 'Say Aah' featuring rapper Fabolous. His first chart-topping album came in 2010 after releasing 'Passion, Pain & Pleasure'. It topped the R&B charts and was the second best-selling album according to Billboard at the time of its release. It also included the top ten single 'Bottoms Up' featuring Nicki Minaj. His fifth album, the aptly titled 'Chapter 5', is due in 2012 although an official release date hasn't been announced.

Trey also tried his hand in acting with credits including 2008's 'Queen of Media' and the role of Ryan in the upcoming and newest installment of the horror cult 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D', slated for release in 2012. He also has two Grammy Award nominations to his name and a BET Award in 2009 for Best Male R&B artist.
