The White Stripes Officially Break Up
When it comes to the White Stripes, say what you will. Even when they are breaking up they continue to bewitch.
On Wednesday, an announcement was posted online and signed by Jack and Meg White of White Stripes. The garage rock pair says they are officially calling it quits and are making no future live performances or new recordings.
The statement says that the decision wasn’t made due to a disagreement or any bad blood. Instead the duo are closing down so they can preserve what is special and beautiful about our band and keep in that way.
White Strips was formed in 1997 and is best known for their alt-rock hits like “Seven Nation Army” and “Fell in Love With a Girl.” In recent years, the band hasn’t performed much. Most of Jack White’s time has been focused on his side projects, including his bands The Dead Weather and The Raconteurs in addition to his producing efforts with Third Man, his record label based in Nashville, Tennessee. The statement announcing that White Stripes was breaking up was posted on the band’s and Third Man Records’ websites.
White Stripes last year released “Under the Great White Northern Lights,” a live album.
