The Strokes Book Madison Square Garden Show Before Festival Run
The Strokes, who call New York home, are anticipating their new album which will be their first in five years. As a commemoration of the release, the group has scheduled a concert in their city. This will also serve as a kick-off event for their 2011 tour that includes many extraordinary concerts.
The four-member group, whose lead singer is Julian Casablancas, has received rave reviews from critics. They will be the headlining act at an April 1 concert that will be held in front of 20,000 fans at Madison Square Garden Arena. This performance is a departure from the typical medium-sized audiences The Strokes are used to playing. According to Rolling Stone, this will be the largest concert ever performed by the group in New York.
Prior to this Madison Square Garden performance, The Strokes have a date at a significantly smaller venue on March 12. This will be held in Las Vegas, NV at the Chelsea at the Cosmopolitan. Devandra Banhart and The Grogs will also be performing.
Other concerts that include performances by the alternative rock group include an April 17 series in Indio, CA at the Coachella Festival, a May 7 concert in New Orleans at the Jazz Festival, and a concert at Bonnaroo that has yet to be set.
Right now, The Strokes are anticipating the drop of their 4th album, which is titled “Angles.” It is set to go on sale on March 22. This is the group’s first album since “First Impressions of Earth” was released in January of 2006.
Following the release of that album, the members of the group have mostly gone solo. Each member with the exception of Nick Valensi has produced a complete album on their own or in collaboration with another act.
Based on statements made to Rolling Stone in January, the group reiterated their intention to make a comeback in 2011. Albert Hammond, Jr. said, “We want to come back strong but slowly, so we can grow live and make new music. We want to release albums quicker.”
Even though The Stroke has plans for concerts in a number of big United States venues during the spring and summer, they have not yet released all of their tour dates. The manager for the group, Ryan Gentles, who is the CEO of Wiz Kid Management, tweeted that “ALL tour plans” are “still pending.”
