The Script Brings ‘Science and Faith’ to US Shores

In April, The Script, the pop band from Ireland, will be returning to the U.S. in support of “Science and Faith,” their second album. Following its June 18 release, the set debuted in the No. 3 spot on Billboard’s 200 album chart.

From April 28 to May 2, The Script will be performing on the “Best Cruise Ever” put on by VH1 aboard the Carnival Cruise Line “Inspiration,” along with Matt Wertz, The Daylights, Lifehouse and Train. Later in April, the band will return to the U.S.

During it’s first week out, “Science and Faith” sold over 49,000 copies and spawned “For The First Time.” The video for the hit single features Eve Hewson, who is Bono’s (of U2 fame) daughter, who stars as a teenage who along with her significant other are battling financial issues.

After struggling for years people will ask, what makes you qualified to write songs about a recession, said Glenn Power, the band’s drummer. We tell them, we’re musicians. We have been through recessions for our entire lives. All of us have gone through lean years where we had no money and no one came to our gigs. When we hooked up, we know there was a spark and we had something here. At that point it was only a matter of trying to prove ourselves to people and getting out there. The results are coming now. After years of sometimes doubting yourself and wondering if you are doing the right things, it’s great validation to finally get here.

The new set is coming two years after their self-titled breakthrough debut album. Originally “The Script” started off slowly, however after opening for David Cook and Adele, in addition to their singles “Breakeven” and “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved,” the set peaked into the Top 100 on Billboard’s 200 album chart. According to Power, he along with the other band members guitarist March Sheehan and keyboardist/singer Danny O’Donoghue, didn’t expect that “Breakeven” would be a big hit.

Power said, you hope people will catch onto your songs. You can’t ever expect this type of success. Yes, you dream about it, but you can’t expect it. The fact it’s happened this way has been great. There’s a reason why we play that song near the ending of our set. It’s because it’s a big hit for everyone. It seems to really resonate emotions in everyone. That song has a universal theme. Everyone has been there. That why I think everyone connnects with the song so well. It has a great groove.
