the postal service Biography
The electronic musical group The Postal Service is comprised of producer Jimmy Tamborello from Headset and Dntel and vocalist Ben Gibbard from Death Cab for Cutie.
The Postal Service was established following Gibbard's vocal contributions to a song called "The Dream of Evan and Chan" on "Life Is Full of Possibilities," a Dntel album. The song led to EP with remixes performed by various artists, including Superpitcher, Barbara Morgenstern, Safety Scissors, The Flaming Lips and Lali Puna. The EP was very well received, so Gibbard and Tamborello decided to do some additional collaboration. The band's name comes from the way the group's songs are produced. First Tamborello would write and perform the instrumental tracks and then send them to Gibbard. Then Gibbard would edit the songs, add his vocals and return them to Tamborello though the U.S. Postal Service.
In 2003 The Postal Service released "Give Up," their debut album. Several of the album's songs featured guest vocalists Jenny Lewis from Rilo Kiley and vocals from Jen Wood, an indie rock musician. Chris Walla and Dntel produced the album. On several tracks Walla played piano and guitar. "Such Great Heights" became the most well-known song off the album, appearing on numerous television shows and movies.
Although there were rumors that the duo were working on another album, there has been no additional release by the group to date. Postal Service announced in February 2013 that were officially reuniting to perform twelve tour dates, which includes performances at Coachella Sasquatch Festival and Barcelona's Primavera Sound Festival.
