The Moody Blues Sets Up Timeless Flight 2014 Tour
The Moody Blues are just a groovy forward-looking group of guys. My evidence? They’ve just kicked off their fall 2013 tour and they’re already planning ahead, announcing a string of US dates to take them into 2014.
The whole trek is set to feature 30 dates, across cities in 16 states. Moody Blues singer/guitarist, Justin Hayward told ABC News Radio: “We’re gettin’ around”, adding that he’s particularly looking forward to visiting the West Coast, “’cause I don’t think we’ve been that way for a while.”
Hayward also suggested that the new shows are likely to be kind of the same, but also a bit different to their last stint in the US. In his own, extremely-informative words, “We’re doing a couple of songs that we haven’t done. We’re doing a few different things and swapping around songs every night, so that’s quite interesting.”
This desire to play some new songs was presumably motivated by Hayward’s self-confessed rediscovery of the band’s back catalog. Speaking with UCR earlier this year, the guitarist said that the live setting has given the band the chance to re-explore songs they originally “only ever played for a couple of days” when they were recorded. He added, “You just forget about these songs, but the fans never forget about them.”
The band’s current tour sees them through to November 2nd in Rancho Mirage, California, and the newly-announced dates litter New Jersey.
As well as doing very well professionally-speaking, it sounds like The Moody Blues are in a similarly peaceful place personally, with Hayward saying:
“I think this incarnation of The Moody Blues is certainly the happiest and the most enjoyable that me, [drummer] Graeme [Edge] and [singer/bassist] John [Lodge] have ever been part of.”
