Tenacious D Go All Acoustic for East Coast Tour
Tenacious D will hit up the East Coast for an acoustic tour early next year.
The duo, featuring Jack Black and Kyle Glass, call the new trek “An Old School Acoustic Style Tour,” and it will kick off February 28, 2013 in Atlantic City, N.J. at the Showboat Hotel and Casino: House of Blues. The pair are scheduled to remain on the road through a March 12 show in Miami Beach at The Fillmore at Jackie Gleason Theater. In between those dates, the tour also will visit Boston; Providence, R.I.; Pittsburgh; Columbus, Ohio; Raleigh, N.C.; Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Orlando.
The tour will continue to support the group’s third album, Rize of the Fenix, which was released in May. That album was the group’s first album in more than six years, and it debuted at number four on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Former Nirvana drummer and current Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl played drums on the album as a special guest, and the record was produced by John Kimbrough.
In other news concerning Rize of the Fenix, the album was nominated for a Grammy last week for the upcoming 55th Annual Grammy Awards. The ceremony will be held early next year. Here’s how the group announced their nomination on their official website:
The music Gods have spoken and The D has just received a GRAMMY nomination for Best Comedy Album – Rize of the Fenix. Congrats to Jack and Kyle.
The band also was tapped to perform the title track from the album at Spike TV’s 10th Annual Video Game Awards over the weekend.
Black and Glass have been performing as Tenacious D since 1991, and in addition to the three studio albums, the pair has been featured in a television series and a movie called “Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny.”
