Sugarland on Tap to Perform at CNN Heroes Tribute
Sugarland, the country music duo, will perform at “CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute” this year. The program will air on CNN’s global networks on Thanksgiving night.
The group will be performing a new song “Stand Up” from their forthcoming “The Incredible Machine” album due to be released on October 19.
The performance by Sugarland will be one of many in the celebrity studded two hour tribute to CNN’s Top 100 Heroes of 2010.
The fourth annual program will be hosted by Anderson Cooper from Los Angeles, CA in Shrine Auditorium. The show spotlights ordinary people who are helping to change the world. The program will air on November 25 at 8 pm PT/ET time.
Over 10,000 nominations were received for CNN Heroes from over 100 countries.
A panel of blue ribbon judges, which include Rainnnnn Wilson, actor, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, rapper, Apolo Anton Ohno, Olympic speed skater, Yo Yo Ma, cellist, Richard Branson and Muhammad Ali selected CNN’s Top 10 Heroes.
Also included in the judges were Ela Bhatt, entrepreneur, Hill Harper, author, Alek Wek, supermodel Patricia Heaton and Holly Robinson Peete, actresses, Ricky Martin, singer and Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter.
CNN.com announced their Top 10 Heroes on September 23. The public then started to vote for Hero of the Year on CNNHeroes.com. During the tribute show they will announce CNN’s Hero of the Year.
Each Top 10 Hero will receive $25,000 each. CNN’s Hero of the Year will receive an extra $100,000. Efren Penaflorida was CNN’s 2009 Hero of the Year. In the Philippines he founded a pushcart classroom to help give poor children education as an alternative of gang membership.

Since CNN’s inaugural 2007 tribute broadcast participating celebrities and performers have included Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, Terrence Howard, Lucy Liu, Salma Hayek, Forest Whitaker, Meg Ryan, Cameron Diaz, Glenn Close and Nicole Kidman.
Performances at earlier tribute shows included Grammy Award winners John Legend, Alicia Keys, Carrie Underwood, Christina Aguilera Sheryl Crow and Mary J. Blige.
The 2010 show presenters and performers will be announced soon.
Joel Gallen, award winning director and producer will be the executive producer for “CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute. Gallen’s credits include producing telethon event to support Haiti earthquake victims, Hurricane Katrina and 9/11 terrorist attacks. Gallen also won a Peabody Award and Emmy Award for his work on “America: A Tribute to Heroes.”
