In December 2009, when the fifth album from Coldplay was first announced, the band promised to deliver a more acoustic, stripped down collection of songs to be recorded along with the help of producer Brian Eno in a run down London church. Well 18 months later, we are getting a first sampling of the band’s latest efforts. It sounds like the best songwriters of the music instead are attempting to bridge the synthesizer, U2 and Coldplay worlds.

It hasn’t been confirmed yet where or not “Every Teardrop is a Waterfall” will appear on the still unnamed album. However, the song will be suitable for Coldplay’s forthcoming festival headlining appearances, especially the chorus of “Oh Oh Oh.” The band has also been careful to mention on their website that there are elements from Adrienne Anderson and Peter Allen’s “I Go To Rio” in their song.
