Stone Temple Pilots Booking Tour Dates Despite Seizure
Fans of the Stone Temple Pilots who were worried that the recent seizure suffered by frontman Scott Weiland might affect the fall tour plans of the band can take comfort in knowing that a trek into Canada has been added onto the tour.
The tour for the reunited rockers will start on October 2 at Bayfest in Mobile Alabama, which will be followed up with stops in approximately 12 other US cities by the end of October. The band will then take a short break and then take on the recently added Canadian leg of the tour, starting in Victoria, British Columbia on November 7, followed by a tour of another seven Canadian cities.
News of the Canadian expansion came just a few days after Weiland was reported to have had a mild seizure while on his way to Miami from Los Angeles while aboard an American Airlines plane. The incident occurred on September 18 and the plane made an emergency landing in Texas at the Dallas-Ft Worth International Airport.
A Weiland representative told Rolling Stone magazine that the flight crew had used the public address system on the plane to ask for medical assistance and also gave Weiland oxygen. He was reported to be in good spirits while being taken off the plane on his way to the local hospital.
Weiland, who is reported to have a history with seizures, still was able to make it to the stage on September 19 in Miami at an event marking the launch of “Weiland for English Laundry,” a new line of men’s clothing.
Last year the Stone Temple Pilots had a full reunion tour, which was their first US tour in almost eight years. This year they had a sporadic summer schedule. The band won a 1994 Grammy Award for “Plush,” and had fifteen top 10 singles. Their last release in 2001 was “Shangri-La Dee Da.” The group disbanded soon after that.
Weiland, who released a second solo album last fall- “Happy in Galoshes”- acknowledged that there are plans for a new Stone Temple Pilots album.
In a Spin magazine interview earlier this year Weiland said that the DeLeo Brothers were already writing instrumental music for a new album. He added that the process is different than with solo stuff. In early 2010 Stone Temple Pilots will have a new album out, Weiland said.
