So You Think You Can Dance Annouces 2012 Tour Dates

The top 10 finalists of this season of “So You Think You Can Dance” will hit the road for a tour this fall after the television series wraps up.

The tour will kick off October 23 at the San Diego Civic Theatre and run through a December 5 event at the Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino (whew, what a mouthful!). In between those dates, the tour will visit cities including Los Angeles, Milwaukee, New York, Boston, Atlantic City, Atlanta and Tampa.

The timing of the announcement coincides with last night’s episode, which cut four contestants revealing the top 10 finalists for this season. Nigel Lythgoe, a judge and co-creator of the Fox show, commented on the talent of this year’s competition in a statement.

“Now in its 9th season, I continue to be inspired by the ever-evolving, magnificent talent that is out there. It warms my heart to be able to share our discoveries with the nation,” he said. “I have every confidence that this year’s top ten will blow you away.”

The statement also says that the tour will present audiences with “sizzling, one-of-a-kind dance routines they expect from the television show that recently received six Emmy nominations including Outstanding Reality-Competition Program and Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-based Competition Program.” The latter nomination is for host Cat Deeley.

The tour is presented by a collaboration between 19 Entertainment, Dick Clark Productions and AEG Live.

The U.S. version of “So You Think You Can Dance” premiered in 2005, and the ninth season premiered on May 24 this year. Before the season began, it was announced that only one episode would air each week, with the weekly results show being eliminated. Additionally, for the first time in the history of the show, two winners, one male and one female, will be announced during the season finale.
