Simon Cowell to Reunite with Paula on X Factor?
Simon Cowell’s “X Factor”, which is scheduled to be released in America in six months, has given rise to rumors about who the ex-“American Idol” judge would like to appear on the new show. These days, becoming a judge on a reality program can lead to recognition and other product lines. As such, Cowell has begun hinting about who he wants to judge on the American version of “X-Factor.”
In an interview with “Access Hollywood,” Cowell recently confirmed rumors that Paula Abdul, who appeared with him on “American Idol”, is one of his top picks to be on his celebrity panel. Abdul’s recent dancing reality show, “Live to Dance” tanked and has some free time on her hands. Cowell has made it no secret that he really likes Abdul.
In addition to Abdul, Cowell also indicated that he is considering Nicole Scherzinger, ex-Pussycat Doll, Mariah Carey, and the 1980s icon George Michael. As of right now, however, none of these musical stars have been confirmed. When asked by “Access Hollywood” if he had actually talked to Mariah Carey, who is currently expecting a child, Cowell stated, “Yeah, I’ve spoken to her. I mean, literally, we’ve spoken to lots of people. I’ve spoken to Paula.” He also said that he has reached out to some potential judges while others have reached out to him.
He went on to say, “And then new people come along…[Two days ago], we met somebody who I’ve never met before in my life, who I just loved.” It is possible that he is talking about Jessica Simpson, a singer who has been rumored to be in the top spot to get the job. Cowell said, “And that’s why it’s good to kind of delay the process. It’s not about necessarily the TV show per se, it’s people. You genuinely gotta trust that they’re gonna be able to do the job you’re paying them to do. And like I said, a hit-maker who worked in America and has had experience, I think is crucial to this panel as well.”
Cowell is slated to be on the judging panel himself and indicated that Abdul is absolutely one of his top picks, but he isn’t the only one making the decision. This means he is unable to confirm if they can get together again on “Factor.”
Cowell also refuted reports that other singers are being considered for the show. These names included Elton John and Katy Perry. Even though John’s name popped up as a potential judge on Simon’s program (and was even considered for the open seat on “American Idol”), Cowell stated that he has not talked to John about the job. In addition, Cowell does not believe John would fit in on the panel.
Cowell said in reference to John, “He’s so grumpy nowadays. I mean, it would be like, he’d just be moaning the whole time.” Cowell also shot down rumors that Christina Aguilera, who is slated to be on the judging panel for “The Voice,” is not being considered for “X-Factor.” He did confirm that his friend and ex-music executive Tommy Mottola has been contacted.
Recently, Cowell has tried to drum up support for his new program, telling anyone who will listen that the auditions are open to groups, does not set an age restriction, and will present a $5 million reward to the winner. The first auditions will be in Los Angeles on March 27. Live auditions will be performed in front of 5,000 fans, which Cowell stated would be similar to a first live concert and will be an indication of how well they deal with performing live.
