Santana Teams Up with Steve Miller for Co-Headlining Tour

Carlos Santana will team up with the Steve Miller Band for a handful of tour dates in Australia in March 2013.

The two acts will co-headline four shows Down Under, starting in Melbourne on March 21, 2013. The tour will move to Adelaide the following night, and then to Sydney for a show on March 27. The short tour will wrap up March 28 in Brisbane.

Santana and Steve Miller will be in Australia for the Byron Bay’s Bluesfest 2013, which is a five-day event held over Easter Weekend, March 28-April 1, 2013. That festival features an impressive lineup, including Iggy & the Stooges, Wilco, Bonnie Raitt, Counting Crows, Chris Isaak, Ben Harper, Grace Potter, Mavis Staples, Wanda Jackson, Robert Plant, Counting Crows, William Elliott Whitmore, the Blind Boys of Alabama and Jimmy Cliff, among many others.

Carlos Santana will be supporting his most recent album, Shape Shifter, which was released in May of this year. The album is his 36th release overall, including solo albums and albums under the Santana band name.

Since early May, Santana has been performing a residency at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, though he has occasionally toured around North America since that time to promote Shape Shifter. The current residency is scheduled to last two years, and is his second in the city – he wrapped up a long stint at the Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in 2011.

Steve Miller Band’s most recent studio album is 2011′s Let Your Hair Down. The album is made up primarily of blues covers of greats like Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters and Willie Dixon. The album was recorded at the same sessions that produced the band’s 2010 offering Bingo! That album also featured cover songs, including titles by Elmore James, B.B. King and Jimmie Vaughan.
