Santana Postpones Weekend Florida Dates

Carlos Santana has canceled three concerts scheduled in Florida over the weekend.

“It is with great regret that the upcoming performances featuring Carlos Santana and the Santana Band have been postponed due to circumstances beyond our control,” read a statement posted on the legendary guitarist’s official website. “Universal Tone Management is working diligently to reschedule these performances. We would like to thank all of the fans in Florida for your patronage, and we look forward to bringing you the music of Carlos Santana in the future.”

Though there is obviously no official reason given in the statement, the Tampa Bay Times reports that Live Nation said the Sunday show at the city’s 1-800-Ask-Gary Amphitheatre was called off because “Carlos Santana was ill and unable to perform.” Santana also was originally slated to perform tonight and tomorrow night (August 24-25) at the Seminole Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Fla.

On Monday, Santana posted a poem of sorts to his Facebook page that would seem to support the reports that he is ill.

“Cold chills, chicken skin, the cold shakes,” he wrote in the stream-of-consciousness writing. “Today I learned that your brain tells your body/To create cold chills so you can sweat a lot/To prevent you from having a seizure.”

Santana fans that have already purchased tickets can keep them and use them at the upcoming rescheduled shows when they are announced, or get a refund at the original point of purchase.

Some news outlets have speculated that the postponement may be related to tropical storm Isaac, which could strengthen into a hurricane and may hit Florida on Monday. Santana issued no official statement about the weather.

No other postponements or cancellations have been announced, and Santana is scheduled to resume his Las Vegas residency at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay on September 12.
