Santana Mexico Concert Features Juanes, Miguel, Gloria Estefan
Carlos Santana is set to head South of the border this December to headline a concert with a number of high-profile Latin music performers.
The night is due to be a bit of a homecoming for the man himself, scheduled for Guadalajara, Mexico, at the Vicente Fernandez Arena on December 14th, in Santana’s native state of Jalisco.
The show comes in conjunction with the guitarist’s upcoming album, Corazón, that’s due for release early next year. The album is set to feature performances from what looks to be everyone in Carlos’ personal phone book, including Gloria Estefan, Miguel, award-winning Colombian rockers Juanes, Carlos’ son Salvador Santana, as well as Ziggy Marley, Pitbull and Mexican-American singer/actress Lila Downs.
Now, these people either really respect Carlos, or owe him a lot of favors, because a selection of these album collaborators will also be heading to Mexico on December 14th with Santana to play the show, including ChocQuibTown, Gloria Estefan, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, Juanes, Miguel, Niña Pastori, Samuel Rosa of Skank, Salvador Santana, Soledad, Diego Torres and others.
A statement on Santana’s official website describes the show as a “once in a lifetime concert event” with “a star-studded cast of musicians, all celebrating their Latin music heritage.” All the above are, as yet, the only confirmed attendees, but said statement also promises “more guest performances will be announced.”
Santana has enjoyed a career spanning four decades, over which he has released seven studio albums, three live albums, six compilation albums and five singles. In 2003, Rolling Stone magazine listed Santana at number 20 on their list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time and he has 10 Grammy Awards and three Latin Grammy Awards to his name.
