Run DMC, Refused, Santigold Highlight Fun Fun Fun Festival Lineup
Legendary rap group Run-DMC will reunite for the first time in over a decade at this year’s Fun Fun Fun Fest. They will join other headliners including Refused and Santigold at the Austin, Texas festival.
An official statement by the band said that they will play “for the first time since disbanding in 2002. Surviving members Joseph “Run” Simmons and Darryl “D.M.C.” McDaniels will headline the main stage.” Original member Jason “Jam-Master Jay” Mizell was shot and killed in his studio in New York in October 2002 at the age of 37.
This year’s Fun Fun Fun event will be held November 2-4 at Auditorium Shores in Austin. In addition to the aforementioned headliners, other notable acts performing include A$AP Rocky, Girl Talk, Public Image Ltd., Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, The Head and the Heart, Bob Mould, Against Me! and Titus Andronicus. Legendary band X will appear on the final day of the festival to perform the entirety of their classic album Los Angeles.
In addition to all the music, there also will be a slew of comedians performing at the event. These include David Cross, Wyatt Cenac, Doug Benson, Eugene Mirman and Jon Benjamin, among others.
Though there’s no additional information, the festival’s website lists activities such as “Air Sex Championship,” “FFF Dating Game,” “Battle Rap Royal,” “Veggie Hot Dog Eating Contest” and “Taco Cannon.” These alone seem enough to make the festival unique among the slew of other festivals this year.
Speaking of the official website, it easily gets the vote for Best Designed Festival Website, 2012 (if there is such an award).
Fun Fun Fun Fest has been held every year since 2006. It was moved to Auditorium Shores – a park in downtown Austin near Ladybird Lake – last year from it’s previous location in Waterloo Park.
