roger waters Biography

Roger Waters, the English musician, songwriter-singer and composer, was born in Leatherhead, Surrey on September 6, 1943. He was one of the founders of the band Pink Floyd and served as the group's co-lead vocalist and bassist. In 1968 Syd Barrett left the band and Waters became Pink Floyd's conceptual leader and principal songwriter and lyricist. During the 1970s Pink Floyd achieved worldwide success through their concept albums “The Wall,” “Animals,” “Wish You Were Here” and “The Dark Side of the Moon.” In addition to playing bass guitar, Waters also experimented with tape loos and synthesisers and in concerts and recordings played rhythm guitar.

In 1985, Waters left the band due to creative differences. He and the remaining band members engaged in a legal battle over the band's future use of Pink Floyd's material and name. In 1987, a settlement was reached out of court. Waters didn't perform again with Pink Floyd for 18 years.

Over the course of his solo career Waters has released three studio albums: 1984's “The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking,” 1987's “Radio K.A.O.S.” and 1992's “Amused to Death. In 1990, Waters staged “The Wall- Live in Berlin,” one of the all-time largest rock concerts, with approximately 200,00 fans. Since 1999 Waters, as a soloist, has toured extensively. On his world tours from 2006 to 2008 he performed the entire “The Dark Side of the Moon” album. In 2005, Waters reunited with David Gilmour, Richard Wright and Nick Mason from Pink Floyd and performed at Live 8's charity concert. In 2010, Waters embarked on his worldwide tour “The Wall Live,” which features “The Wall” performed in its entirety.
