The English songwriter and rock singer Robert Plant was born in West Bromwich, Birmingham on August 20, 1948. He is best known as being the lyricist and vocalist of Led Zeppelin. Plant has also been successful as a solo artist. Plant's career spans over 40 years. He is considered to be one of the greatest singers ever in rock music history. He was named “Greatest Metal Vocalist of All-Time” in 2006 by Hit Parader magazine.

In 1968, Plant joined Led Zeppelin as lead singer. The Led Zeppelin lyrics of Plant's were often spiritual, philosophical and mystical and referred to Norse and classical mythology events. J.R.R. Tolkien also influenced Plant's songwriting. Throughout the 1970's Plant enjoyed much success as the front man of Led Zeppelin.

After Led Zeppelin broke up in 1980, Plant went on to pursue a very successful solo career. In 1982 he released “Pictures at Eleven” and in 1983 “The Principle of Moments.” In 1984 Plant, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page formed an all-star short lived group called The Honeydrippers.
