reba mcentire Biography
Reba McEntire, the American country music singer and actress, was born on March 28, 1955 in Kiowa, Oklahoma. She started her music career singing at rodeos and local radio shows with her siblings. Rod Steagall, a country artist, saw McEntire perform at an Oklahoma City rodeo and took the young singer to Nashville, Tennessee. In 1975, McEntire signed with Mercury Records and in 1977 released her debut album along with five other studio albums with the label through 1983.
McEntire then signed with the label MCA Nashville Records. On her 1984 album “My Kind of Country,” Reba took over the creative control to create a country sound that was more traditional. Two No. 1 singles were spawned from the set: “Somebody Should Leave” and “How Blue.” This album brought McEntire her breakthrough success, leading to a whole series of number one singles and successful albums throughout the 1980s as well as 1990s. McEntire over the course of her career has had 35 No. 1 singles, released a total of 34 studio albums and had 28 albums certified multi-platinum, platinum or gold.
McEntire launched her acting career during the early 1990s, beginning with the 1990 film “Tremors.” Since then she has starred in an “Annie Get Your Gun” Broadway revival and from 2001-07 starred in “Reba,” her own television sitcom. McEntire is sometimes called “The Queen of Country.” She has sold over 41 million US records and over 56 million worldwide records. McEntire trails only Shania Twain for top selling female country singer and is seventh top selling country artist and female artist for all genres.
