Randy Travis Tangles with the Law Again, This Time Naked
Country singer Randy Travis was charged with driving while intoxicated and threatening officers after he wrecked the Pontiac Trans Am he was driving on Tuesday night in north Texas. Officers that arrived on the scene after the accident reported that Travis was naked and combative.
“Travis had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath and several signs of intoxication,” revealed a statement released by the Grayson Country Sheriff’s Office. “While Travis was being transported, Travis made threats to shoot and kill the troopers working on the case.”
This marks the second incident involving alcohol for Travis this year, who was cited in February for public intoxication when he was spotted in a vehicle parked in a church parking lot about 20 miles from where the most recent incident occurred.
The accident occurred when the 53-year-old Travis veered off a roadway near Tioga, Texas, which is about 60 miles north of Dallas. After running off the road, the Trans Am struck several barricades in a construction zone, according to Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Tom Vinger,
Vinger confirmed that Travis made threats against DPS troopers and was not wearing any clothing at the time of his arrest. Travis refused a sobriety test, and a blood specimen was taken instead. A mug shot shows Travis with a black eye and several cuts on his face.
Travis was released on $21,500 bond Wednesday morning from a jail in Sherman, Texas. As he left the jail, he was photographed wearing scrubs, a University of Texas baseball cap and no shoes.
Travis has also been in the news this year because of messy court proceedings with his ex-wife, Elizabeth Travis. The two divorced in 2010 after 19 years of marriage. Elizabeth Travis was also his longtime manager, and had served the role since Travis began his music career more than three decades ago.
Elizabeth Travis filed a lawsuit that claimed that Randy Travis had terminated her management contract without proper notice. Randy Travis countersued in May of this year.
