R Kelly Tours Behind ‘Love Letter’
On Tuesday, R. Kelly, R&B’s self-proclaimed king, announced this summer he will be hitting the road in support of “Love Letter,” his 11th album.
The Grammy Award winning singer will kick off his month long outing in Southaven, Mississippi on June 2. On June 11, he will visit Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.
Kelly has garnered rave reviews with “Love Letter.” The set is in the classic soul, throwback style of Donny Hathaway, Sam Cooke and Marvin Gaye and marks a departure from his sexual, seductive role that Kelly has delivered throughout a majority of his career. August Brown, Los Angeles Times writer, applauded Kelly for delivering an entire record of grown-man, slow-simmered emoting.
Kelly continues to be one of R&B’s biggest selling artists. He has sold over 34 million albums, including eight No. 1 sets and 12 No. 1 hit singles.
Kelly will be joined on his “Love Letter Tour” by Marsha Ambrosius and Keyshia Cole (she also supported Kelly on his “Double Up tour” in 2007). Kelly is also working on his memoir.
The book, entitled “Soulacoaster,” might shed some light finally on the long list of setbacks Kelly has suffered throughout his life which have slowed down his career, including getting blacklisted by several urban radio stations, legal problems, and a nasty feud with Jay-Z which resulted in their joint tour being canceled.
In a statement concerning the book, Kelly said, I’m sick and tired of always being misunderstood. I will show all the sweat, fears and tears. I will be opening up heart up to reveal not just the drama but also the good things from my life. I will be tell it just like it is.
