Prince Spinning Residency Dates in Chicago

Prince is no stranger to residencies, recently completing one each in New York and Los Angeles, and soon he will add Chicago to that list.

A show titled “Welcome 2 Chicago” will be held September 24 at the United Center. Though that is the only show announced at this time, it is being called a residency similar to his New York and LA stints, so we’re assuming additional dates will be announced soon.

In April of last year, Prince performed a 21-night residency in Los Angeles as part of the “Welcome 2 America” tour. In addition to New York, he also has played shorter residencies in Oakland, Calif., and in North and South Carolina.

The larger tour (“Welcome 2 America”) has partnered with Rebuild the Dream, which is an economic advocacy program supports low-income and middle-class Americans by providing education and lobbying on their behalf. Teams from the organization will be on hand at the concerts to help those in need.

“On site at the United Center, Prince and Rebuild the Dream will offer opportunities to learn about, support, and take part in rebuilding vibrant and sustainable communities,” a press release noted. “Socially-conscious businesses, tech start-ups, entrepreneurs, and other innovators will offer specific tools that individuals and communities can use to improve their economic situation in the short- as well as long-term.”

The organization’s president, Van Jones, spoke further about working together with Prince, also in the statement.

“We couldn’t be more excited about partnering with a legend like Prince,” Jones said. “Our economic system is broken. Rebuild the Dream exists to unite arts and organize into a potent force to support the Dreams of Our Communities. There are few artists who have Prince’s unwavering commitment to a vision of a sustainable, fair economic future.”
