: February 08, 2012
Poison drummer Rikki Rockett confirmed via his Facebook page Sunday that Poison will tour with Def Leppard this summer, though no exact cities or dates have yet to be announced.
The glam metal band Poison was established in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania in 1983. Original band members included lead vocalist Bret Michaels, drummer Rikki Rockett, bassist Bobby Dall and guitarist Matt Smith. In 1984 the group relocated to Los Angeles. From the mid-1980s through the mid-1990s the band achieved great success. Poision has sold more than 30 million worldwide records and 15 million U.S. records. The band also has had ten singles chart within the Top 40 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, six singles within the top 10 and their No. 1 Hot 100 song "Every Rose Has Its Thorn." Poison was an icon of MTV's 1980s era and achieved great commercial success.
In 1986 Poison released "Look What the Cat Dragged In," their multi-platinum, breakthrough first album. "Open Up and Say... Ahh!," their multi-platinum second album, became one of Poison's most successful albums. "Flesh & Blood," the band's third album, was released in 1990 and also reached multi-platinum status.
After releasing "Swallow This Live" in 1991, Posion's first live album, the band underwent lineup changes. Pop metal was also dropping in poularity. However, despite these challenges "Native Tongue," Poison's fourth album, still went Gold. "Poison's Greatest Hits: 1986-1996," their first compilation album released in 1996, reached double platinum.
Poison's original lineup reunited in the 2000s and rose to prominence once again. In 2000 the band released "Crack a Smile... and More!" as well as "Power to the People." In 2002 Poision released "Hollyweird" and in 2006, to commemorate the band's 20th year anniverary, released an album "The Best of Poison: 20 Years of Rock" as well as embarked on a tour. The album went Gold. Poision after 25 years continues to perform and record music.
