Phoenix Rises Up for New Spring Tour Dates
French rockers Phoenix are fresh off their Grammy win and looking to hit the road for another set of concert dates. Starting April 17, Phoenix will settle in to Santa Cruz, California before embarking on an 11-city trek that will take them through the end of April wrapping on the 30th in Houston. Part of their journey is a featured slot on the Coachella stage in Indio, California on April 18. Full Phoenix tour dates are outlined below with tickets for most dates go onsale via Livenation and local venue sites on Friday, February 19.
Their fourth album “Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix” hit store shelves in May 26, 2009, and netted them the prized honor of Best Alternative Music Album Grammy at last month’s awards extravaganza. The album edged up to 37 on the Billboard Album Charts and its single “1901” found its way to number 9 on the Alternative song chart.
Lead singer Thomas Mars is the boyfriend to indie director Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation, The Virgin Suicides) so the band had a bit of a pull when it came to scoring the soundtrack to Coppola’s upcoming film “Somewhere.” Mars said of the finished soundtrack due out later this year, “It’s very minimal. It’s almost like sound design. It wasn’t like writing songs, it was more about trying to make a sound that fits with a Ferrari and the city of Los Angeles’s theme. It was more of an engineer work than a composer.”
